Don't miss out on 2019 tax refunds

If you haven’t filed your 2019 tax return yet you may be one of the 1.5 million people who have not claimed their refund.  The IRS believes that there is nearly $1.5 billion in refunds that remain unclaimed because people have not filed their 2019 tax returns.  It is believed that the average median refund will be $893.

Since the original deadline for the 2019 tax returns was pushed back due to the Covid-19 pandemic, people still have time to claim the refunds.  In most years, people have 3 years from the deadline to claim a tax refund before the IRS keeps it.

If you haven’t filed your 2019 tax return and think you might be due a refund or should have received the Earned Income Credit or Child Tax Credit there is still time to file.  You have until July 17, 2023 to claim your refund for 2019.

But what if you didn’t file your taxes because you lost or never received your tax forms like your W-2?  The great thing is that you can request a transcript of your tax forms from the IRS by going online to the IRS.gov website and choosing Get Transcript Online .  Another option is to get any key forms from the issuer like your employer for your W-2 or your bank for any interest forms.

If you need help filling out a prior year tax return, you can work with our partners at GetYourRefund.org to prepare your taxes for free with a volunteer. Make sure you don’t miss out on money that is yours.
